- PRESERVE biodiversity and the traditional food productions connected to it — food cultures that respect ecosystems, the pleasure of eating, and people’s quality of life;

TERRA MADRE
n October 2004, alongside the Salone del Gusto, the first edition of Terra Madre was organised on the initiative of a committee formed by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies, the Piedmont Region, the City of Turin, and Slow Food.
Around 5,000 delegates from 130 countries took part in the event and were hosted throughout the Piedmont region, as well as in parts of Liguria, Lombardy, and the Aosta Valley.
The protagonists of this gathering were the 1,250 Food Communities — a new concept referring to an extended food chain that includes farmers, producers, processors, and distributors. The 2018 edition hosted the ninth gathering of the event.
